High calibre software specialists attracted to growing company with emerging technology
Having doubled its staff numbers this year and now listing seven of the world’s leading investment banks as clients, Codefarm continues to expand organically and is attracting top postgraduate software specialists.
From its new headquarters in Brighton, Codefarm sees a bright future as its evolutionary computing solutions to financial optimization problems enable investment banks to increase their returns.
Jeremy Mabbitt, Managing Director of Codefarm, commented: “Global investment banks are rapidly recognising the power of our technology and how it outperforms the traditional, slower, manual techniques. So with this strong demand we are finding, recruitment is a rising issue. Our focus is on streamlined delivery of products which reflect the latest market developments, so we have an ongoing need for high-calibre staff who can participate in product development and hit the ground running when it comes to rapid deployment of our solutions for clients.”
Codefarm’s recent recruits have indicated the attractions of working for a growing company with an emerging technology that is beginning to realise its commercial potential:
Cristiano Solarino, who is developing Codefarm’s user interface development, explained the appeal of Codefarm’s solutions: “I’m enthralled by the surprise element of evolutionary computing. With traditional forms of computing, programmers would tell the computer exactly what to do and there were no real surprises. But with evolutionary computing, it’s quite possible that the solutions are what the programmers never expected. That has really interesting philosophical implications.”
James Hugman, who is involved in project development and delivery, has found a particularly suitable niche for his original academic interest: “Having initially trained as a vet, bio-inspired technologies hold a particular fascination for me. At Codefarm, I am able to call upon my knowledge of minor diseases and large ecosystems and apply them to one of my early interests — computing. My veterinary studies have given me an understanding of cyclical phenomena that are so difficult to deconstruct but play such an important role in evolutionary computing.”
Dr Fenglian Xu, who is integrating client’s grid networks with Codefarm’s optimization server, explained why she preferred joining a growing company to a larger one: “Codefarm’s software solutions for the financial sector are fascinating and, as a growing and dynamic company, I expect to be able to develop my technical, managerial and client-facing skills. I was offered two places simultaneously, but chose Codefarm even though it involved a 125-mile round-trip commute.”
Codefarm’s growth has been almost entirely organic in nature. After an initial investment by its founders the company has grown steadily and sustainably by winning contracts with investment banks from across the globe.
