Codefarm links up with Oxford University academic to explore applications of evolutionary computing

6 February 2004

Oxford University researcher David Crosby has joined Brighton-based evolutionary computing specialist Codefarm as a consultant. Crosby will investigate scientific applications of Codefarm’s evolutionary and heuristic software solutions for intractable problems faced by industry.

David Crosby, a lecturer and researcher in atomic physics at New College, Oxford, has worked for a number of companies including the UK Atomic Energy Authority, Adaptive Eyecare Limited and Spectrasense. Crosby first graduated from the University of Oxford in 1998 and has recently submitted a DPhil in atomic and laser physics.

“David Crosby is a specialist in the computationally exacting area of atomic physics and has salient knowledge of developments across many scientific fields,” said Jeremy Mabbitt, Managing Director of Codefarm. “In a fast-developing field such as evolutionary computing, Codefarm benefits by having links with academics in relevant disciplines. David’s contribution will be two-fold: his knowledge of recent scientific developments will help indicate areas with potential for evolutionary computing and his sound research experience will help ensure that we maintain a high degree of rigour in our operations.”

“There is enormous scope for more effective computational techniques and evolutionary computing is an area which is ripe for commercial development,” said David Crosby. “I am excited about its prospects and working with Codefarm as a research adviser to help them develop new types of solutions to intractable problems.”
