26 January 2004

Evolutionary computing specialist Codefarm has moved to new headquarters in the Sussex Innovation Centre (SINC) on the campus of the University of Sussex, Brighton, UK. The move marks the first major expansion of the company, which is just one year old but already employing four people.

Codefarm is a pioneer in commercialising research in evolutionary and heuristic computing by providing software products and services for business, scientific and engineering organisations seeking optimization solutions to intractable problems.

“The Sussex Innovation Centre is an ideal home for us at this stage in our growth,” said Jeremy Mabbitt, Managing Director of Codefarm. “As one of the premier business incubators in the UK, SINC provides excellent facilities and a stimulating environment for a company such as ours.”

Mabbitt continued: “The University of Sussex is home to one of the world’s largest groups of researchers studying artificial evolutionary and adaptive systems, so our new location is very beneficial to our business development. We already have close links with the Department of Informatics and the former School of Cognitive and Computing Sciences.”

Opened in 1996, the Sussex Innovation Centre (SINC) was one of the first technology business incubators in the UK. Working very closely with the University of Sussex, SINC is a unique collaboration between the public, academic and business sectors committed to harnessing the economic potential of the extensive education and research resources available in the Sussex area. It is currently home to more than 40 high-growth companies working within the IT, biotech, media and engineering sectors.

In welcoming Codefarm to the Centre, SINC’s Executive Director, Mike Herd, said: “Codefarm is just the type of company we are looking for. They have proven strength in technical innovation through their two DTI awards and they are developing some interesting new AI applications for the financial sector. I’m looking forward to working with them; they have excellent Potential.”
